General Assemblies
General Assemblies (GAs) are the largest and most traditional style of Model UN committee, simulating the UN General Assembly and other large UN bodies of similar scale and format. These committees focus on broad, global issues and emphasize formal debate, extensive research, coalition-building, and strong resolution writing. Delegates in GAs represent countries and work through diplomacy and compromise to pass resolutions addressing pressing international challenges. These are the largest committees, typically featuring between 120 and 190 delegates.
Economic and Social Councils
Economic & Social Councils (ECOSOCs) are similar to General Assemblies, but simulate smaller UN bodies more narrowly focused on economic, social, and cultural issues, as well as regional institutions. Delegates in these committees will develop deep knowledge of these more specific global and regional issues as they collaborate to pass pressing resolutions. Economic & Social Councils are mid-sized committees, typically with around 90 delegates.
Specialized Agencies
The Specialized Agencies are unique committees that combine the intricacy of the General Assemblies with the creativity and innovation of the Crisis Committees. Specialized Agencies will require delegates to be highly familiar with the substantive context of their topic while being prepared for dynamic changes in the situations at hand. These committees encourage an approach to topics from different perspectives, as well as a collaborative and creative take on developing a stable path for the future. Specialized Agencies are mid-sized committees, typically ranging from 70 to 80 delegates.
Crisis Simulations
Crisis Simulations are fast-paced, creative committees that require delegates to think quickly on their feet. Delegates in Crisis Simulations are expected to quickly adapt to the dynamic nature of the committee, therefore requiring delegates to be highly familiar with the substantive content of their committee. These committees encourage delegates to wholly engage with nuanced, complex topics of discussion to stimulate the ever-evolving nature of the United Nations. Crisis committees tend to be smaller in size, typically with around 20 delegates.
